About the U20G Solar Tracker Linear Actuator

The TOMUU U20G is a heavy-duty solar tracker linear actuator specifically engineered for utility-scale PV tracking systems. Designed for demanding outdoor environments, it delivers up to 43,000N dynamic load capacity and 150kN maximum static load, providing reliable long-term operation for both single-axis and dual-axis solar tracker structures.

With over 57GW of installed solar tracking capacity supported worldwide, TOMUU actuators have been applied in utility-scale solar projects across the United States, Egypt, India, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia and other global markets.



What Makes Solar Tracker Actuators Different

Solar tracker actuators get compared to industrial actuators, but the design priorities are almost opposite. An industrial actuator is optimized for speed and duty cycle. A tracker actuator barely moves — but it has to survive outdoors for 25 years with no maintenance.

The field conditions that drive the design:

Daily cycling. The tracker follows the sun every day — roughly 365 cycles per year, but each cycle moves several tons of steel and glass against wind load.

Wind holding, not pushing. The biggest load isn't the motor driving the array — it's wind trying to back-drive the actuator. Static holding force is what keeps the array from drifting, which is why static load capacity matters more than peak push force.

Outdoor exposure. UV, dust, rain, humidity, -40°C to +65°C. IP66 is the practical minimum for exposed mounting.

No service access. A utility-scale plant has 50,000+ actuators across the array. Nobody is going out to relubricate at year 10. The actuator runs to end-of-life with whatever sealing it shipped with.

Load Variants for Different Tracker Structures

The U20G comes in four load configurations. In practice, most of our orders are for Variant A (31,000N) or Variant D (24,000N) — these cover the majority of single-axis tracker projects we've supplied. The higher-load B and C variants are specified when project conditions require them.

Variant A — 31,000N

The most common configuration. Standard single-axis trackers in moderate wind regions — our typical order volume.

Variant D — 24,000N

Also frequently ordered. Lightweight tracker structures, dual-axis systems, or desert sites with lower wind exposure.

Variant B — 42,000N

Larger PV arrays or projects in high-wind zones. Specified when the structure calls for more holding force than A.

Variant C — 43,000N

High-load projects with extreme wind requirements or multi-row tracker structures. Used less frequently than A and D.

For high-wind sites or multi-row tracker structures, B or C is the safer choice. If you're not sure which fits your project, send us your tracker structure specs and we'll recommend.

What is the difference between U20G Variants A, B, C, and D?

Why is static load important?

A solar tracker spends much more time holding position than moving.

With a maximum static load of 150kN, the U20G is designed to keep the tracker stable under high wind loads and help prevent back-driving or position drift.


Which IP protection rating should I choose?

IP66 is now the standard configuration for all U20G actuators.

It provides reliable protection against dust, heavy rain, and harsh outdoor environments. For projects with special environmental requirements, our engineering team can recommend the most suitable protection solution.


Does the U20G come with position feedback?

Not as standard.

Most utility-scale solar projects use a standard two-wire motor without position feedback. If your control system requires position feedback, a built-in Hall sensor is also available
